In His hands…

“Ever since we had the vision, God has been at work, getting us into the shape of the ideal, and over and over again, we escape from His hand and try to batter ourselves into our own shape.” ~from My Utmost for His Highest, July 6

For quite a while, our pastor has been discussing the work of God in our lives.  He constantly emphasizes the finished work of God through Christ on the cross , and how rather than letting the LORD do it, we try to do it ourselves.  We, in effect, stop God’s work in us and try to do it ourselves.  However, our work is to realize the fact that God has done it all, so we already have it all.  If we are His sons and daughters, we have in Christ the hope of glory.  This has not been taught in a lot of churches because they use verses like Philippians 2:12, “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-not only in my presence, but now much more in my absense-continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” to emphasize our effort in salvation while ignoring the very next verse.  “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Phil 2:13, italics mine).  The work is the LORD’s, the benefit is ours.  Our workis to rest in His hands.

This revelation is amazing and the great source of joy, but so few realize it.  So many believers walk around in despair.  Worrying about their standing before the LORD.  Thinking others arebetterthan they are.  Living in fear.  Fear of making the wrong choice, fear of failing, fear of falling out of favor.  The antidote to this fear is love.

Remember John 3:16. I do.  I can quote it easily. For God so loved…these four words define God.   1 John 4:16 states this revelation as well, “God is love.” Continuing to verse 18, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…” so in His love, we find freedom from fear…we get peace.  In His love, we have confidence (verse 17). Let’s abide in this truth, today.

How different would our churches, homes, businesses, and communities look if all believers started living in this truth? For me, I believe we would see the Kingdom of Heaven manifested all around us.
