In His Arms…

9 07 2012

Yesterday, during the worship portion of our church service, I felt lead by the LORD to hold my oldest son.  As I was praying for and ministering to him, his younger brother wanted me to pick him as well.  Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem for me if I were sitting, but at this time, I was standing.  Now, my oldest weighs about fifty pounds and just over four-feet tall, and my youngest is about thirty-five pounds and just over three-feet tall.  I am not the strongest man in the world, but 85 lbs and over 7 feet of energetic little boys can be difficult to hold.  Needless to say, I had to sit down before too long.

While I was struggling to hold both of the boys, I thought about Papa God.  Unlike me, Papa God is not limited in His capacity to hold or uphold His children.  He never tires of hearing of our joyous stories or difficult days, our silly moments or profound thoughts.  He loves us, and being the perfect Daddy, He does not leave us orphans.  He is our ever-present, all knowing, all powerful father.  He is always in a good mood, and He loves us all.   Psalm 27:7-8 says it well, “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.  Therefore my heart rejoices, and I praise Him with my song.  The LORD is the strength of His people; He is a stronghold of salvation for His anointed.”

This truth reminds me of the  refrain from the hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

Let’s live this day in the shadow of the almighty!
